Proxies, get ready to welcome Zenless Zone Zero's version 1.7 update, "Bury Your Tears With the Past." The story continues with Phaeton alongside the featured characters in 1.7, Vivian and Hugo Vlad. It seems like a very intense chapter in the world of New Eridu is coming, and it's definitely something to look forward to!
Like in any gacha updates, the majority of the players will be looking forward to pulling for new and rerun characters alongside their W-Engines. There will also be a chance for players to max out the Cinemas of their A-Rank characters and get new Bangboos to help them in battle. These banners will be released on April 23, 2025, onwards.
Upcoming Zenless Zone Zero Banners
Zenless Zone Zero features two phases per version update. Here are the upcoming banners for Phases 1 and 2, including the A-Rank characters, W-Engines, and Bangboos.
Phase 1 - Vivian

+ 6Phase 1 will feature one of the newest playable characters in the game, Vivian. She is an S-Rank Ether Anomaly character who uses her parasol to fight against enemies. She is part of the Mockingbird faction in the game, which is known as a group of thieves in New Eridu.
During Vivian's banner period, her Signature W-Engine (weapon) "Flight of Fancy" will also be available for players to pull for.

Phase 1 - Jane Doe
click to enlarge+ 6Jane Doe will be featured on the re-run banner for Zenless Zone Zero version 1.7 during Phase 1. She is an S-Rank Physical Anomaly character who uses slash attacks. She works as a consultant for the Criminal Investigation Special Response Team, which is under the New Eridu Public Security.
Her Signature W-Engine "Sharpened Stinger" will also be featured during her re-run for those who missed out on the weapon.

Phase 2 - Hugo Vlad
click to enlarge+ 6The second new character in version 1.7 is Hugo Vlad. He is a prominent member of the Mockingbird and a former friend of Lycaon before their friendship turned into a rivalry. He is an S-Rank Ice Attack Agent who uses a scythe to unleash his fury on enemies.
His Signature W-Engine "Myriad Eclipse" will also be available during his run alongside A-Rank characters.

Phase 2 - Lighter
click to enlarge+ 6Lighter will be having his re-run at the same time as Hugo. He is known as the "Red Scarf" and the Champion of Sons of Calydon. He is an S-Rank Fire Stun character who uses a gauntlet to fight off enemies from the Hollow.
During his re-run, his Signature W-Engine "Blazing Laurel" banner will also be available.

- Soukaku - A-Rank (Ice, Support)
- Anton Ivanov - A-Rank (Electric, Attack)
The featured A-Rank characters' W-Engines for both Phases 1 and 2 will also have a rate-up when you pull for the featured banners. These are: Drill Rig - Red Axis (Anton), Peacekeeper - Specialized (Seth), Bashful Demon (Soukaku), and Roaring Ride (Piper).
New Bangboos
click to enlarge+ 6Two new Bangboos are coming in Zenless Zone Zero version 1.7. The S-Rank Bangboo Robin, and the A-Rank Bangboo Overtimeboo. Robin is Hugo's Bangboo and also participated in the previous event in ZZZ, however, the skills of these Bangboos are yet to be uncovered.
Who should you pull for?
Since there are four characters to choose from for Zenless Zone Zero's version 1.7 update, it can be difficult to decide which one to spend those precious Polychromes on, especially if you're a free-to-play player.
If you already have on-field Anomaly characters like Miyabi and don't have other Anomaly characters like Burnice to support them, it may be worth getting Vivian. She seems more of an off-field character who allows DPS to shine through, but I believe she'd be more flexible once we know her complete kit on release.
Based on information on Hugo's skills, he's an addition to the Ice DPS roster. He'd be best paired with Stun Agents such as Lycaon, Lighter, or A-Ranks like Anby for his Core Passive. If you don't have Miyabi or Ellen, you may opt to pull for Hugo.
click to enlarge+ 6While Jane was a great damage dealer in the earlier stages of the game, she has been quickly surpassed by many of the Anomaly characters. She's still a great damage dealer overall but will need a lot of on-field time. If you have Burnice or anyone similar, then you can get Jane if you wish to.
Lighter will be having his re-run in Zenless Zone Zero version 1.7 alongside Hugo's banner. He's a Fire Stun and is the best Stunner for Fire and Ice DPS like Evelyn and Miyabi (will require another Fire or Sons of Calydon character in the team). He may be compatible in a team with Hugo since the latter will need Stuns to activate his Core Passive. If you have Evelyn and want to buff her, definitely go for Lighter.
Ultimately, it will be your decision which character you'll spend your precious Polychromes on. It can depend entirely on whether you like the design or aesthetic, their skills, or whether they fit the current game meta.
