It's always fun to discover new games, but the price tags for buying individual games can be intimidating for most. Many subscriptions offer access to games, but one of the best may be Xbox's Game Pass subscription.

Xbox offers a monthly subscription called the Game Pass, which is available for both PC and console. This includes many perks such as access to games and in-game benefits, but is it really worth getting the Game Pass for the benefits of F2P games?

PC Game Pass vs Game Pass Ultimate

Before deciding whether to buy it, it's best to know the difference between the Game Pass tiers for the PC and console.

  • PC Game Pass: The PC Game Pass includes access to hundreds of PC games (including single-player and co-op), the ability to play new games on the game's release date, member deals, discounts, and in-game benefits for free-to-play games such as Valorant, and an EA Play membership.
  • Game Pass Ultimate: The Game Pass Ultimate includes the same access as PC Game Pass but also provides a wide selection of games on the console and cloud, as well as online console multiplayer.

There are two other tiers for the console: Core and Standard. The only difference between Game Pass Core and Game Pass Standard is the number of games included. Core only gives access to 25 games, while Standard gives access to hundreds of games on the console. These two subscription tiers still provide in-game benefits.

In-Game Benefits

All the Xbox Game Pass tiers include in-game benefits for multiple free-to-play games when you subscribe. There were new F2P games added in the March and April updates. To be specific, here are the games that are covered and what benefits you'd get for each.

  • Asphalt Legends Unite: Unlock the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, 10 St. Patrick's Card Packs, and 500,000 credits that can be used for upgrades.
  • Call of Duty: Warzone: Free in-game bundle for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone that includes 2 Operator skins, 3 weapon blueprints, 2 emotes, weapon charm and reticle, an emblem, background, 2 stickers, 2XP Token (1 Hour), and 2 WXP Token (1 Hour).
  • Heroes of the Storm: Get the Heroic Reinforcement Bundle, which adds 30 Heroes for you to use.

The Game Pass also provides in-game benefits for 4 of Riot's online games.

  • Legend of Runeterra: Unlocks all cards in the Foundations Set.

Should you get Game Pass for In-Game Benefits?

Here are some of the reasons why you should get PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate for the in-game benefits of F2P games.

Trying out new games

If you love trying out new games, then it will be worth getting the Game Pass. It's especially valuable if you're starting out in any of the listed F2P games since the majority of the benefits are geared toward providing access to the characters. This is especially true in Riot Games, as it unlocks the Champions, Agents, card sets, and a Tactician for you.

Useful benefits

Since the in-game benefits provided are access to characters, gears, and XP boosts, it's useful when you're trying to grind. If you play Riot Games such as Valorant and League of Legends, it's nice to have access to new Agents and Champions on the day of their release.

Cosmetics

If you like getting skins for your characters and other cosmetic items on top of unlocking them, then getting the Game Pass may be worth it for you. However, note that not all games provide skins. Currently, the games that include cosmetics are Call of Duty: Warzone, Naraka: Bladepoint, Overwatch 2, Smite 2, The Finals, and Teamfight Tactics.

The bottom line is that it is worth getting the Game Pass for the in-game benefits. Not only will you get a wide range of benefits when you play the F2P games of your choice, but you also have access to hundreds of video games. However, if you don't have much time to allot to gaming due to life commitments, then it'd be best not to subscribe, as you will not get the most out of the subscription.

It will still be based on your judgment, but make sure to have fun if you do subscribe to Xbox Game Pass!
