If you wanted one more excuse to play The Last of Us Part II, how about doing so in chronological order? Well, now you can do that thanks to the new free update that adds a brand-new chronological mode to the 2020 game.

Introduced for those playing TLOUII Remastered, this free update that launched on July 8 will allow users to experience both Ellie and Abby's journey without time skips, flashbacks, and more narrative devices that, frankly, added to the sense of mystery when it came to character motivations.

Of course, many veterans know the story of The Last of Us like the back of their hands. Adding a new way to experience it might definitely up the replay value.

For newer players, it's a neat option. The TV show does have a mixture of time jumps with a more concise narrative, as the first part of the new season barely features Abby and does reveal her motivations super early compared to the game's story. So this new mode might be crafted to cater to those who want to experience the game after watching the HBO show.

In any case, at least it's a free upgrade and not an entirely new release of the game, which wasn't out of the realm of possibility, considering how in love Naughty Dog is with re-releasing anything Last of Us related.

Neat little outfits for completing the game in chronological order

One more thing to note with the Chronological patch is that, for those who complete the game in this new mode, they'll unlock Joel and Tommy outfits inspired by Nathan Drake and Sam Drake from the Uncharted series.

These outfits will be usable on The Last of Us No Return, the survival roguelike mode included with TLOU Part II Remastered.
