Capcom has confirmed the Nintendo Switch 2 Street Fighter 6 version is competitively viable. That means players can use this port during online events in order to try and qualify for Capcom Cup and have a shot at winning $1 million.
The company published a Capcom Pro Tour rules update stating that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been tournament-approved and can be utilized for competitors to play in World Warrior events, CPT Premier tournaments, and Capcom Cup.
Of course, CPT Premiers and Capcom Cup will more than likely be played on PlayStation 5 and PC setups. But for the online World Warrior events, which are regional qualifiers that grant a spot for Capcom Cup, competitors will indeed be able to use the Switch 2 version of SF6.
Capcom reiterated the importance of playing using a wired connection. The portability of the Switch 2 is enticing, but don't go ahead thinking you'll be able to play your matches using McDonald's Wi-Fi. Luckily, unlike the original Switch, the Nintendo Switch 2 dock does come with an Ethernet port right out of the gate, so there's no need to buy a ridiculous adapter like you had to do previously.
Early reports did suggest the Switch 2 version of Street Fighter 6 had the same performance as the PS5 edition. Even if the game has no Input Delay Reduction option like other versions, if you're using a 120hz monitor, you won't even miss it.
Naturally, compromises had to be made in the graphical department. The game does not look as crisp as the PS5 or, naturally, the PC version. But taking into account SF6 on Switch is good enough to be considered a viable alternative for competitors in official Capcom tournaments, that's a trade-off many are willing to make.
If you're looking to get into fighting games, I've explained why you should stop making excuses and jump into one. Street Fighter 6 being this good on Switch 2 is yet another reason.
