The Summer Game Fest showcase ended with a Capcom banger. After teasing it earlier during the stream, we finally got a look at Resident Evil 9: Requiem, set to release on February 27, 2026.
Fans had been waiting for over four years to see the next chapter in the Resident Evil series following the launch of Village. Sure, they got to enjoy the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 4: Ramek in 2023, but following the events of RE8, the door was opened to some crazy narrative developments.
The glimpses of story we saw from the SFG teaser included the potential main protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa, a character that first appeared on Resident Evil Outbreak.
We also got to see a decimated Raccoon City following, which is something we rarely get to see in the Resident Evil series, as most of the mainline entries beyond Resident Evil 3 tend to focus on stories that take key characters away from the city.
Sadly for fans of legacy characters, the Resident Evil Requiem Summer Game Fest trailer didn't show any of them. If you played RE Village you might have some hopes for characters such as Chris Redfield or Ada Wong to show up. Some more outlandish choices included Leon Kennedy, sadly, none of them were seen.
It is expected that Capcom will have a proper game reveal in the coming months as no gameplay was shown at SFG. Geoff Keighley did tease that it was an ambitious and bold take on the franchise, but that could very well just be PR talk. As mentioned, Resident Evil 9 Requiem is set to come out on February 27, 2026 for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC.
