Star Wars Eclipse was officially revealed back in 2021, and a lot of fans were hoping that it would be the next narrative-driven Star Wars game after Jedi: Fallen Order. With three years and no update, fans were sure that the game, like many others, was officially dead.
While Star Wars projects getting canceled has sort of become the norm for SW fans, it does look like Eclipse could be gearing up for some kind of big announcement soon.
Hello There
Right after the Star Wars Celebration weekend, the socials for Eclipse posted this message:
Immediately a lot of fans jumped on the post asking what the update could mean, and while it’s not an official mention of the game pushing forward, the article did also post:
Nothing else has been revealed about the game, but at least the socials are getting the fans buzzing again.
What Do We Know about SW Eclipse So Far?
When the game was first announced, it did come with a few details about it, including the era that it takes place in as well as the game format. Here’s the cinematic reveal:
The description read:
“Star Wars Eclipse™ is the newest adventure in the High Republic era, now early in development by Quantic Dream.
Set during the High Republic era, Star Wars Eclipse™ is an intricately branching action-adventure game that can be experienced in many ways, and puts the destinies of multiple playable characters in your hands, created in collaboration between Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games.”
For context, the developers Quantic Dream are best known for their narrative-based games including hit titles like Detroit: Become Human and Beyond: Two Souls.
Though the cinematic reveal had no actual footage of gameplay, fans were expecting something along the same format as Become Human in the sense that it won’t be a straight-up action game, but rather a movie where players can influence decisions.
Why Was Star Wars Eclipse Delayed?
We don’t know exactly what the hold-up was for Eclipse, but seeing that this is Star Wars, it’s possible that the storyline could have contradicted something that was already in the works. After all The Acolyte—which was cancelled—also takes place around the High Republic era.
What were the odds that The Acolyte happened and the devs were forced to change the story for Eclipse—ultimatelyresulting in the game getting delayed?
With Acolyte canceled, maybe the playing field was opened up for Eclipse, and this is what resulted in the game getting back on track. Then again, this is just speculation on my part. I would have absolutely loved to get two things set in the High Republic era since all we have for most of its coverage is just books and comics.
