A brand-new Star Wars turn-based tactical RPG is coming out, titled Zero Company. Developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, fans will get to see the first details of the game at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration Japan event.

While there have been tactical RPG games in the franchise before, fans are excited about what Bit Reactor and Respawn are going to bring to the table with their vision for Zero Company.

Star Wars Zero Company

Officially confirmed via a small press release on Star Wars' website, the upcoming SW Celebration event will give us the our first look at the newly revealed Star Wars Zero Company.

The development was initially announced back in 2022. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that the game was making an appearance at Star Wars Celebration. Information was still scarce, and while it still is, at least fans have a bit of key art and a timeframe in which they can expect the game to be set.

The game is said to take place during the Clone Wars, and the cover features all kinds of Star Wars archetypes from a clone trooper, to a Mandalorian, and a Jedi. Check this out:

The official description reads: “Recruit an unconventional team of operatives and deploy them on missions unlike any other in the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars Zero Company!"

Take note that these are only a ‘few members of the elite squad’ that will be under your command, so it’s possible that this could be filled up with all kinds of kooky characters. Though there are some expected warrior-types like clones and bounty hunters, it’s possible that the series could also feature some fan-favorite heroes like specific Jedi like Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi; if playing the Separatists faction is possible then there could be playable characters like Grievous or Darth Maul.

How about some love for Clone Wars villains like Asajj Ventress or Cad Bane?

Previous Tactical Games

It’s been a while since Star Wars has released a large-scale tactical game. The last title that went all out with it was Empire at War, and that came out back in the 2000s. There have been turn-based titles in mobile, but it looks like Zero Company is going for a AAA quality experience, especially taking into consideration that there are former XCOM developers involved in the project.

Of course, a turn-based RPG of that calibre is something we've never seen in the Star Wars universe, making Zero Company a unique spin on the IP that could rekindle interest after recent duds like Star Wars Outlaws.

Until they reveal more this weekend, all fans can really do is just wait and see.

So far, fans have only gotten the teaser image, but more is expected to be revealed at Celebration in Japan—specifically on April 19 at 4:30 p.m. JST.
