GameStop is not messing around with staplers anymore. The company informed users via social media that they would offer Nintendo Switch 2 replacements to users whose brand-new consoles were damaged by a store in New York that decided to staple customer receipts to the console's box, puncturing the Switch 2 screen in the process.
The news of the damaged Switch 2 consoles spread on June 5, during the system's launch day. Multiple sites reported on the situation, with the situation essentially going viral, as X (formerly Twitter) users relished yet another opportunity to dunk on GameStop, albeit a rather justified one.
In any case, the company was swift to respond, managing this PR catastrophe with grace. Just a few hours after the debacle, GameStop revealed via social media that every user affected (remarking that this incident was isolated to a single store) by this mishap was offered a Switch 2 replacement.
Getting a Switch 2 is not cheap, but it could be worse. At least this time, unlike previous console launches, supply is meeting demand, meaning there's a high likelihood you can walk into a GameStop or another electronics store and pick one up if you desire.
Had the disaster occurred with very little supply to meet demand, GameStop might have found itself in a very dire situation. Good on them for responding so swiftly and with grace to the situation, though.
