The Final Fantasy Tactics remake is real. During the June 2025 Sony State of Play, Square Enix unveiled Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles, developed by in-house studio Creative Unit III. It's set to come out on September 30.

Tactics is one of the most beloved games in the franchise. Originally released in Japan in 1997, it came to the West in 1998 a few months later, making its mark on the gaming industry.

Now, almost 30 years later, The Ivalice Chronicles will bring the instant classic to a newer generation of consoles. This version of Tactics will ship with two versions of the game: the enhanced version, which adds fully voiced dialogue, a more modern UI, multiple graphical improvements, and quality-of-life features.

There's also the classic experience that mimics the 1997 release. The only addition is the War of the Lions translation, which is lauded as the best translated version of Final Fantasy Tactics to date.
