Someone at Steam probably finds themselves in hot water this weekend after the release date for Mafia: The Old Country was accidentally published through a blog post on the gaming platform's website.
Until now, the game only had a vague release window of 2025, but according to the leak, Mafia: The Old Country looks set to launch on August 8, 2025. Per Insider Gaming via @videotechuk_, the original post read:
Mafia: The Old Country is available August 8, 2025. Pre-order now for PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and stay tuned to the official Mafia website for more information.
Information regarding the release date has unsurprisingly been deleted from the Steam site since, however, a separate post also revealed details about a live stream that Hangar 13 developers plan to host at PAX on May 8. Here, they will talk about the past, present, and future of the Mafia franchise, including new insights into the development of The Old Country.
In addition to being the first indication we've had of a solid release date for Mafia: The Old Country, it potentially serves as a big hint towards the release window of GTA 6.
While they obviously follow completely different stories set in contrasting times and locations, Mafia games do possess some gameplay similarities to GTA, and The Old Country will be no different.
Because of this, you would think Take-Two has carefully planned the launch window for the latest Mafia installment to ensure it doesn't come out around the same time as GTA 6.
A GTA 6 release before August 8 seems very unlikely as it is, so this new leak could suggest it's either somewhere around September, or well into October—which seems the most likely based on previous Rockstar Game releases.
Of course, this is purely speculation based on the leaked date for The Old Country, and knowing Rockstar, they will keep all of us guessing for a long, long time.
