Obtaining the characters we love is part of the fun of playing gacha games like Genshin Impact. This includes Umamusume Pretty Derby, where we aim to acquire the best horse girls and support cards for them.

Players of Umamusume have different criteria in choosing which horse girl they want to choose, so let's dive deeper into who might be the best one to get from the free ticket you get.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby - Which 3-Star Should You Pick?

I recommend holding off on using the 3-star ticket or the SSR Guaranteed Make Debut Ticket until you've used the random 3-star tickets to pull on the gacha banners.

There's a chance that you may get the Uma you want through the random tickets, so do that first. You can also reroll until you're happy with the initial horse girls that you get. I understand if you don't want to reroll and go with what you receive from the start.

If you don't know where to claim the ticket, just go to the Shop from the main menu and then click on Voucher Exchange. Here you'll be able to see all the Umamusumes you can choose from.

So, who should you consider to pick out of all the SSR available through the SSR Guaranteed Make Debut Ticket?

Oguri Cap

Choose Oguri Cap if you want a safe choice. She's also a good choice for those who aren't sure yet on what to build and are still figuring the game out, but want to keep moving forward.

Oguri Cap's known as an all-rounder as she is well-balanced. Her unique skill, "Triumphant Pulse," gives her a chance to break from the pack and hopefully get the win. However, she has to be close to the lead during the last 200m to have an easier time breaking through. This is a fantastic skill to pass on as a Legacy, and she's pretty compatible with most of the available girls in the game at the moment. She's also adaptable to both terrain types and can perform well in any of the race distances.

Even a beginner in Umamusume Pretty Derby will find Oguri Cap easier to build, train, and make progress in Career Mode compared to the other horse girls. Also, I just really like her character design (which is what I mostly follow when deciding which character I get from my gacha games).

Maruzensky

Maruzensky's great at short or medium races. You can get her if you want an Umamusume that leads from the front.

Maruzensky reaches her top speed pretty fast. She's actually really versatile and can adapt to most race distances, which makes her a good first 3-Star if you don't have one yet. Her unique skill, "Red Shift/LP1211-M," favors her leading towards the front since it increases her acceleration on the final corner or later. Not only that, but she's one of the few to excel on a Dirt track, so it's really good to have her as well.

If you're unable to get Maruzensky, Taiki, or Oguri Cap, one of your last hopes for Dirt tracks is Haru Urara.

Taiki Shuttle

One of your choices for Dirt tracks, as you don't really have a lot of options. She

While it still depends on how you build Taiki Shuttle, she's still a good choice for running Dirt races. Her unique skill, "Shooting for Victory!" allows her to increase her acceleration when positioned well on the final corner. She's great on the Mile and Short tracks. She's one of the common and safer choice when choosing through the SSR ticket (if you didn't get her with the random tickets).

In addition to these Umamusumes, others may be a bit more challenging to handle or manage, especially for those just starting the game. However, it's always good to choose the Uma that you really want rather than forcing yourself to pick one because they're easier to build or because they're part of a meta.

If you dare and want a challenge, pick Rice Shower. She may be cute, and she may attract you, but it is hell training her. It's known in the Umamusume Pretty Derby community that her Career Mode is hard to complete. It will be incredibly satisfying if you're able to complete it. Ultimately, the choice is yours.
