R.E.P.O: All Monsters and Best Strategies Against Them

R.E.P.O. (The Retrieve, Extract, & Profit Operation) is a great horror co-op experience similar to Lethal Company. The main objective is simple: you must complete the extraction points' quota by collecting valuable items from the location and returning them to the truck when done.

However, you will face a lot of monsters along the way. The first few levels are tame and doable, but as you get further, it can be frustrating since you'll encounter many of them when running back to the truck.

In the current version of the game, there are 19 monsters in total. Find out more about their behavior and strategies you can use against them below.

Animal

HP: 150

The Animal is a monster on all fours, quite fast, and will most likely run towards the player instead of running away. It only deals 2 damage, so it's not the biggest threat. It takes 4 strength upgrades to be able to carry it.

Strategy: It might be best to keep them alive as they can help you eliminate smaller monsters, such as the Gnomes. If not, you can use weapons like the bat or items on the map to kill it quickly. You can also run away from it or hide.

Apex Predator (Duck)

HP: 150

The Apex Predator appears as a cute duck that follows a player around. They will always follow the player's crosshair since they're trying to make you click on them as you try to collect items. However, picking them up (as cute as they are) or touching them will transform them into a flying monster that will deal 10 damage to you for about ten seconds.

Strategy: The Duck is one of the easiest monsters to deal with. The best way to eliminate them without wasting items would be to use the extraction point. When you've achieved the quota, guide the duck to the extraction point and let them get squished. You will also get the orb that you can sell.

Banger (Exploding Skull)

HP: 65

The Banger is a small skull with a bomb in it. It typically travels in threes, activating the bomb when it sees a player or takes damage. The explosion is not instant, but it will kill the player nearby and deal much damage from afar.

Strategy: Bangers are threatening not only to the player but also to enemies. You can toss the Bangers at nearby monsters to kill them, throw them away so they won't damage you, or smash them on the floor twice to kill them.

Bowtie (Cloud)

HP: 100

Bowtie is a cloud-like monster in the R.E.P.O. and isn't that fast unless aggravated. Once it sees a player, it will scream, pushing the player and disabling their movement. There will be times when the Bowtie goes berserk and runs at full speed, dealing damage to anything in its way. Players will need 9 strength to pick it up.

Strategy: It's best to use ranged weapons against the Bowtie, but you may also use melee weapons when it's not looking. Make sure to crouch and hide under tables or corners until the Bowtie passes by before making a move.

Chef (Frog)

HP: 150

The Chef is a frog that wears a chef's uniform and carries two meat cleavers. It moves slowly, but once it attacks, it locks in the player's direction and lunges. It deals a lot of damage but not enough to one-hit kill a player. Players will also need 9 strength to pick up the frog.

Strategy: It's best to hide from the Chef, but you can perform a side-step to avoid the lunge attack. Alternatively, you can also hide behind doors or walls to avoid its attack.

Clown

HP: 250

The Clown is the stuff of nightmares people typically see in horror games. It has big shoes that stomp on the player if they get too close. It also has a balloon-like antenna on its head that shoots laser beams. The Clown aims at the player's head. It takes 13 strength to lift it.

Strategy: When you hear the Clown's footsteps, it's best to hide away. However, if you're stuck in a room with it, you should be as far away as possible. Close proximity to the Clown often guarantees death.

Gnome

HP: 20

Gnomes usually spawn in groups of four or more, targeting the valuable items before harming the players.

Strategy: Lift them, then throw them away. They easily break with little effort.

Headman

HP: 150

The Headman is a terrifying, big floating head that makes loud, biting noises as it wanders around. Once it sees a player, it charges at them and bites, dealing 50 damage per bite. It takes 13 strength to pick this monster up.

Strategy: It's fairly slow, so running and hiding is the best thing to do. It will stop chasing fast. Guns work well against the Headman, but melee weapons are also good (or just honk the clown's nose and let it explode on the monster). Hiding under tables while it's following you is not recommended, as it can still reach.

Hidden

HP: 100

The Hidden is a barely visible enemy. Players will be able to see its black smoke head and footprints. Once a player comes into contact with this monster, it will scream, grab them, and carry the player.

Strategy: It's difficult to see the Hidden, but a teammate can try to grab the caught player so they will not be taken to random places. It can be killed, but it will be hard since it is almost invisible, so it's best to be on guard instead.

Huntsman (Grandpa)

HP: 250

The Huntsman is a blind hunter with a shotgun. It will hear any sound from walking, running, and speaking (or through voice-to-text chat). It takes 9 strength to lift the Huntsman.

Strategy: Keep quiet. If the Huntsman detects you, it's the best time to run. Fighting it may not be worth it since it's pretty tanky.

Peeper (Eye)

HP: 150

The Peeper is an eye on the ceiling. It activates when a player enters its view. The player is forced to look at it, which can be extremely disorienting.

Strategy: You can take cover behind tables, cabinets, or any object in the room to block their view of the Peeper. You can also leave the room if you're able to. If not, you should press "Q" and let your teammate carry you outside the room.

Mentalist

HP: 150

The Mentalist is a floating, meditating enemy that looks for players. Once detected, it activates an anti-gravity circle that lifts all players within that radius. Once the circle turns red, the players caught will be slammed down. It takes 4 strength to lift.

Strategy: Be wary since the Mentalist can teleport. Run away and hide at the first sight of it. If a player is caught, a co-op teammate can grab onto them in multiplayer mode. In solo, hope that you and your friends have full HP.

Reaper (Scarecrow)

HP: 250

The Reaper is a doll-like scarecrow that has blades for hands. It waddles slowly and can be hard to detect. Once it sees a player, it will wildly swing towards them. It takes 9 strength to pick it up.

Strategy: Crouch when the Reaper is around and hide until it moves to another room. Don't try to hide under tables, as it can still reach those places. Close the doors when possible to reset the Reaper and let it roam again.

Robe

HP: 250

The Robe is one of the most annoying monsters in this horror co-op game. It is fast and quietly follows the player to catch them off guard. Looking at its face will make it angry. It takes 13 strength to lift it.

Strategy: Crouch and hide. It's fast and its attacks are lethal, so it's not worth the fight.

Rugrat

HP: 150

The Rugrat is an annoying baby that will grab items and throw them at players. When there's no item to grab, it runs away. It is able to lift up heavier items, which can potentially kill the player in one hit. It takes 4 strength for a single player to lift it.

Strategy: Keep watch of the C.A.R.T. when there are Rugrats on the map. You can smash it on the ground if you have enough strength.

Shadow Child

HP: 150

The Shadow Child is a slender and tall figure. As it randomly teleports, you will hear a child's laugh. If it's within your view, your screen will darken. It takes 9 strength to lift it up.

Strategy: You don't need to kill it. Simply look away and wait for it to disappear.

Spewer

HP: 65

The Spewer is a flying mouth that looks for players. While R.E.P.O. is a horror, this is one of the funniest monsters in the game. It will either scream at a player or latch onto the player's mouth, and the player's voice will become deep. Players will also occasionally vomit, damaging monsters, items, and players.

Strategy: You can grab onto it and shake it to make it flee. If it latches onto your face, don't look at any of your teammates or loot to avoid damage. You can use it on other monsters to deal damage, but be careful!

Trudge

HP: 500

The Trudge is the tankiest, most dangerous, but slowest enemy in the game. It has a big mace, and it's obvious when it's around due to the loud footsteps. It has a pulling ability and slams, which deal 100 damage (instant kill if you don't have any health upgrades).

Strategy: The best thing to do is run from it, hide, and let it pass. If you want to fight it, you will need melee or ranged weapons, but you must be heavily prepared since it has 500 health.

Upscream

HP: 150

The Upscream has four legs and a head with a funny-looking face. It will grab the player, scream, and bite them. Its attacks deal 10 damage, and they won't be able to move for around 2 seconds. Players need 4 strength to lift it.

Strategy: Whack it with a melee weapon or use a tranq gun to stop it from moving. Getting rid of them at higher levels is the best way to prevent an Upscream swarm that can stun you forever.

It's up to you if you want to fight or flight when facing these monsters. If you want to get R.E.P.O. to play with friends, you can download it on Steam!
