Mario Kart World is out now alongside the Switch 2, and fans can barely contain themselves. Every Nintendo system always gets a Mario Kart, but having one as a launch title is exciting. Arguably, this is the only game you need on Nintendo’s new system, if you primarily play multiplayer titles with friends and family.
But there are still a lot of fans who don’t know about this launch title and what it brings to the table, aside from multiplayer thrills. Now that the game is out, fans are free to purchase it in physical stores or on the Nintendo eShop. However, for those who are cautious about picking this up, this article is for you.
How Much Does Mario Kart World Cost?
This Switch 2 title is a whopping $80, the first of its kind. Expect more Switch 2 games to have this price, especially if Nintendo calls them "premium."
Folks at Nintendo have claimed that the game is worth $80, thanks to the amount of content in it. Only time will tell if this ends up being true, especially since Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still available for everyone, and playable on Switch 2.
What Are the Mario Kart World Modes?
The game will ship with three unique modes. One thing we should get out of the way is that, for the battle mode enthusiasts, it seems Mario Kart World won't have one, at least initially.
With that said, the three modes are:
- Grand Prix: The Mario Kart staple. The added gimmick with World involves you racing from one track to another as part of the event
- Knockout: A battle royale mode. You'll race across multiple tracks with each one having checkpoints that eliminate the worse-performing players until there's only one left.
- Free Roam: Fully explore the entire interconnected Mario Kart World stress-free

Is Mario Kart World a Full Game Card or a Game-Key Card?
Mario Kart World is a full game card, with no additional downloads needed to play it. You do still need to download updates for the most up-to-date version of this title, but the full game is in this cartridge.
With Nintendo introducing game-key cards to the mix, fans are more anxious than ever about video game preservation. At the least, this Switch 2 launch game is going to be in the cartridge forever, even when the Switch 3 is eventually announced.
How Do You Download Mario Kart World?
Normally, you just go to the Nintendo eShop and purchase it. However, some players have had difficulties downloading it on the Switch 2, so if you purchased the bundle with a code for the game, try redeeming it on Nintendo’s website.
Fans who purchased the Switch 2 bundle that comes with this game have had a difficult time downloading the racer. Whether it’s due to time differences in North America or other factors is a mystery. If anything, this will probably convince gamers to get the physical version of this launch racer.
Is Mario Kart World 120 FPS?
Various reports have confirmed that Mario Kart World runs at 120 FPS while the Switch 2 is docked. In handheld mode, the game will run at 60FPS, which is still pretty good.
Because this is Nintendo embracing the power of this console, we wouldn’t be surprised if more games end up running at 120 FPS. It’s already a treat seeing the Zelda games run at 60 FPS, and there’s a good chance they can run at 120 FPS too, if this is any indication.
