The most recent title in the previous dormant SNK franchise is a blast to play. In our review, we called it one of the most mechanically deep fighters in recent memory, and REV Blow is one of the most important tools in the game.

If you want to know how to stop it, you need to know how it works.

REV Blow Explained

The REV Blow mechanic is a unique tool in COTW that becomes available once your S.P.G bar becomes active. It allows you to deliver a powerful counter hit that could lead to huge damage if successful.

Dealing with it as a defender can be tricky as it has armor that can negate your offensive pressure, so here are some of the solutions to beat REV Blow.

REV Blow Back

The obvious choice is to REV Blow them back. You can initiate pressure with light attacks and still have enough time to recover to land a counter REV Blow if you see your opponents start glowing green.

The big caveat is, of course, that you need your own S.P.G bar to be active and that's not going to happen all the time. Since you can select in which section of the health bar S.P.G triggers you'll often find yourself never having S.P.G at the same time as your opponents.

Grab It

Another simple alternative is to play a more defensive game and throw a few more grabs into the mix. Similar to DI in Street Fighter 6, you can grab an opponent performing a REV Blow during the start-up animation.

Even air REV Blows are susceptible to this but the timing is incredibly tight so your best bet would be to block it out in this case.

Use The Dodge Attack

The Dodge Attack (REV Guard + Heavy Punch) beats REV Blow clean. If you see your opponent spamming it from a distance in which you can't grab it try this other option.

It's perhaps the most effective tool against REV Blow so keep it in your pocket and build muscle memory to react accordingly.

Super It

Perhaps a bit too obvious but Gears all beat REV Blow clean. Whether it's level 1, level 2, or Hidden Gears. If are fast enough to input them, then you're getting massive damage as a result.
