Xbox Game Pass Retro Classics has been revealed. It's a collection of over 50 Activision games from the 1980s and 1990s, now available on modern platforms.

Microsoft is making a big effort here to preserve gaming’s past while ensuring it stays playable and entertaining for the next gen. Each title now includes modern features like saving and reloading, achievement tracking, community events, and leaderboards, really adding to Game Pass's appeal.

These tweaks are meant to refresh the experience without affecting the original games. For a lot of players, especially those revisiting games they haven’t touched in decades, this is the best possible middle ground between raw emulation and modern playability.

Microsoft teamed up with Antstream Arcade to offer games that are streamed instead of installed locally.

You won’t find a download for Retro Classics, but you can launch the collection on Xbox Series X|S, PC, LG and Samsung smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and Meta Quest headsets.

This setup lets you play classic games without downloads, but streaming quality can be inconsistent, especially on visually detailed PS1 titles.

Access is included in all Xbox Game Pass tiers—Core, Standard, PC, and Ultimate—but availability varies by region. In Japan, for instance, it’s not yet offered under the Core tier. Still, most subscribers worldwide can jump in right now by searching “Retro Classics” in the Game Pass interface and installing it like any other game feature.

Game Pass members also get a limited-time offer: a full Antstream Arcade subscription with 1,300+ retro games for $9.99 yearly until June 4. Opinions on Antstream are mixed because some users complain about delisted games and spotty communication, but the deal still adds a massive value layer to the broader retro gaming ecosystem.

Microsoft isn’t changing these games; instead, it is giving them a fresh stage with today’s technology.
