It looks like CD Projekt Red isn’t done supporting their critically acclaimed Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, as rumors have surfaced about a potential “third expansion” arriving in 2026.

According to Polish podcaster Remigiusz Maciaszek, who posted on his YouTube channel, CD Projekt Red, together with Fool’s Theory, is reportedly working on a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, ten years after the game’s original release. It might sound like an odd move from CD Projekt Red, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve gone the extra mile. They continued to support Cyberpunk 2077 long after its rocky launch, and even that game has more content planned for this year.

Details about the rumored “third expansion” are still under wraps, but speculation is swirling. It could serve as a tie-in for the upcoming Witcher 4, or possibly act as a teaser for the Witcher 1 Remake, which is also being developed by Fool’s Theory.

Is it as big as The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine DLC?

Highly unlikely. Plenty of fans are wondering just how large this new expansion will be. It’s hard to imagine it matching the sheer scale of Blood & Wine, which introduced an entirely new region filled with quests and stories.

More likely, it will be a more modest DLC, perhaps with three or four significant quests, potentially offering new insights into Ciri’s fate after the events of the trilogy. It could function as a bridge between her journey and Geralt’s, creating a “passing the torch” moment for our favorite characters.

DLC or Full Expansion?

It’s unclear whether this new content will rival Blood & Wine in scope or lean more toward something like the Netflix collaboration update, which featured new Armor and Weapons for Geralt and a few side quests inspired by the show. Still, knowing CD Projekt Red’s track record, there’s plenty of potential for a more substantial story-driven experience.

Geralt won't likely be the playable character in the Expansion.

Many fans are hoping for something meatier than a minor add-on, but not quite as long as Blood & Wine. A DLC in the vein of Hearts of Stone might strike the perfect balance.

Ciri as a Playable Character?

If this expansion serves as an epilogue for Geralt and Ciri’s journey, we may get to play as Cirilla herself for its duration. With Geralt seemingly enjoying retirement in Toussaint, it would make sense for Ciri to step into the spotlight — perhaps even taking up his mantle in a more official way. Think of it as Geralt mentoring Ciri, passing on his legacy.

Ciri in The Witcher 4

While Ciri was playable in the base game, her sections were limited and scripted. This expansion could potentially explore her Witcher path more deeply, featuring full gameplay with her unique abilities. It might even set the stage for her to become the central figure in future games.

For now, there’s not much more than speculation, but that’s the nature of rumors. Take everything with a grain of salt until we get an official word.
