Believe it or not, it’s happening. A Halo game is almost definitely making its way to PS5.
The past few days have seen the internet buzzing about leaks from a trusted Halo dataminer hinting at something real in the works.
Did Halo On PlayStation Leak?
The dataminer, known as Grunt.API spotted what looks like a legitimate PlayStation 5 listing for a Halo title hidden in the backend of a retail API.
That discovery alone has sparked all kinds of debate, not just about whether it's real (most agree it is), but about what game it might be. The listing doesn’t line up with any existing title—not Halo Infinite or The Master Chief Collection.
A brand-new product ID points to this being either a completely new title or an updated edition of an older one. What makes things more interesting is how confidently the dataminer claimed it’s coming “very soon,” even though they admitted there’s no ETA yet.
So, while the window is unclear, the backend listing means something is definitely in motion.
What Halo Game Could This Be?
Now, the speculation heats up as some suggest this could be a Halo: Combat Evolved remake, maybe developed in Unreal Engine 5—a rumor that’s been around for a while and now seems more believable.
Others think Halo Infinite is the most likely candidate, especially since it still has an active (and free) multiplayer component that could find new life on a new platform.
Then there’s The Master Chief Collection, which would arguably make the most sense for PS5 newcomers who want to catch up on the series, but multiple sources say that’s probably not the game in question unless it’s been repackaged with a new ID.
Why Would Microsoft Bring Halo to PlayStation?
This wouldn’t be the first time Xbox’s so-called “exclusives” have wandered to other platforms.
But the idea of Halo being playable on a Sony console would’ve been laughed out of the room a decade ago. Over the past year, Microsoft has started porting games like Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, and Gears of War: Reloaded to PlayStation and Switch.
Phil Spencer has openly said Xbox is willing to go where the players are, and this feels like a direct result of that mindset. It’s about expanding reach, especially as Xbox moves deeper into service-based ecosystems like Game Pass.
For two decades, Halo and Xbox were practically inseparable. Now, seeing Master Chief on a PlayStation console would be like Mario showing up in a Sonic game—oh wait, that happened too.
Is Halo Coming To Switch 2?
It’s not off the table, but PlayStation is the only platform the API is pointing to right now.
The dataminer behind the leak confirmed there’s currently no sign that Halo will appear on Nintendo’s next-gen console.
That said, a port might still happen later, especially since Microsoft and Nintendo have been collaborating closely lately.
But considering how big and complex recent Halo games are, it makes sense that PS5 would be the first stop.
