It’s been years since Ubisoft announced that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Splinter Cell would be getting remakes. Sands of Time was reworked after the initial reveal trailer was received negatively, while Splinter Cell never had gameplay to show off. Now in the year of 2025, Ubisoft promises that both games are still coming out “soon.”

During the company’s Annual General Meeting with investors, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet seemingly teased the release of these two titles. While Sands of Time was specifically named, Duguet’s random reference to Sam Fisher’s stealth series also got the attention of fans.

Here’s what the Ubisoft CFO said about the remakes for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Splinter Cell:

"As you know, we've got some iconic brand names in our catalog that we can either activate or reactivate with little investment. This goes to the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is going to be released very soon, or even Splinter Cell later on."

Sands of Time is currently scheduled for a 2026 release window, but very little of the game has been shared. Reports claim that the previously revealed version has already been finished, so waiting for that release is odd. Then again, given the backlash, there’s a very good chance that the visuals were reworked to appease fans.

If only the same thing could be said about Splinter Cell, which has next to nothing when it comes to details. Duguet’s comments make it seem like the remake will come after Sands of Time, which is a pretty long wait since the 3D platformer is coming out next year. This just goes to show why you shouldn’t reveal games unless they’re ready.

Fans who subscribe to Ubisoft’s game service can access the original Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Splinter Cell on PC. However, these games are still lacking in console ports, hence the excitement for the remakes. Fans would gladly take remasters or re-releases of these older titles, but those don’t seem like options right now.
