One of this year’s most anticipated gaming events is just a few months away. Tokyo Game Show 2025 kicks off this September 25 to 28 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. As one of Japan’s biggest celebrations of gaming, players are already excited to see what major titles might be revealed.
Fortunately, Square Enix recently announced that they’re participating in Tokyo Game Show 2025, and naturally, the question arises: are we finally getting a new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer?
Few things are as elusive as the next Kingdom Hearts title. Square Enix has been tight-lipped about the series’ future, especially after the unfortunate cancellation of their Pokemon GO-like mobile game.
Now, all eyes are on the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts IV. We’ve seen a few snippets and some new screenshots following Missing Link’s cancellation, but beyond that, there’s been little to go on. What new worlds will be featured? Will any familiar characters return? And most importantly, where the hell is Sora?
Tokyo Game Show 2025 feels like the perfect moment for Square Enix to finally reveal something. Call it wishful thinking, but it’s hard to imagine them joining such a prestigious event without showing off something major. Maybe it won’t be Kingdom Hearts IV, but it could be an update on the long-rumored Final Fantasy IX Remake — or better yet, new footage from the third entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series.
Personally, I believe there’s going to be something Kingdom Hearts-related at the show. Whether it’s the reveal of a new world or even just a few minutes of gameplay, I’d be thrilled. As someone who’s followed the series for nearly two decades, any news on Kingdom Hearts IV would absolutely drive me wild.
Square Enix has been on shaky ground in recent years. From middling sales in their beloved Final Fantasy series to the underwhelming launch of Final Fantasy XVI on Xbox Series X/S, their reputation has taken a hit, especially with the string of failed live-service games like Babylon’s Fall. They’re in dire need of a refresh, and thankfully, they seem committed to delivering top-tier content in the years ahead, including the upcoming Dragon Quest I & II HD Remake and Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade ports for the Nintendo Switch 2.
But for now, all we can do is hope, like we always do. Kingdom Hearts IV may still be a long way off, but this year’s Tokyo Game Show could finally be the moment Square Enix fans have been waiting for.
