It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the Nintendo Switch 2 is a highly anticipated release, with everyone trying to get their hands on this thing. Unfortunately, it looks like some fans in Japan will have to wait for the second wave of consoles, as Nintendo has announced that they won’t be able to accommodate everyone. This is pretty crazy, especially since the first Switch didn’t get as much attention.
Nintendo’s Japanese X account (via Wario64) has revealed that there are over 2.2 million applications for this console in Japan alone. Unfortunately, this was way more than what Nintendo expected, as the company has now apologized because they can’t accommodate everyone. The company is delivering these systems through its My Nintendo store, and the number just exceeds what they were prepared for.
While the company tried to assure fans that they might be able to get a Switch 2 through the second wave, it seems like most players won’t be getting this system on release day. The company also said that more stores will soon be accepting pre-orders, so fans might still be able to get a copy. But since this is the launch day, it seems that getting this system is going to be crazy for a bit.
The Switch 2 has seen its fair share of controversy, thanks to inflated game prices, the tariff situation in North America, and giving special precedence to NSO users. Fans have mixed opinions on these, since Nintendo does want to combat scalpers who will sell this for double the price, but their methods are a bit extreme.
In the end, fans should probably brace themselves and expect to get this console in another year or two.
