Ubisoft's April update for Assassin's Creed Shadows dropped with fixes and new features to clean things up. Sadly, one of them has been removed.
Of all the updates in the patch, players overwhelmingly favored the much-needed multi-sell system. This practical feature made it easy to mark multiple pieces of gear and either sell or dismantle them in one go rather than dealing with them individually.
For a game that practically drowns you in loot, it was a massive relief. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for that relief to fade. Days later, Ubisoft released Hotfix 1.0.3, quietly taking down the multi-sell feature.
They cited "unexpected issues" as the reason, claiming they were significant enough to remove the feature altogether. Even though the patch notes were vague, some players reported crashes, especially when selling gear while playing as Naoe.
As disappointing as it is, the removal wasn't completely surprising. Ubisoft stated that this is a short-term measure. The plan is to bring the feature back in a future update once the bugs are ironed out. For now, players are stuck manually scrolling through their inventory again.
The Hideout's Forge still lets you dismantle gear, which could be a good workaround if you're focused on salvaging materials instead of selling off junk. It wasn't all bad news with the hotfix, though.
The update addressed stability with fixes for PS5 crashes, HDR display bugs, and stuttering problems on PC. It also fixed visual glitches related to Yasuke's outfits and resolved an issue with a weapon skin that was causing the game to crash.
Players using performance mode can now enjoy the Hideout without the previous 30 FPS cap. Still, it's tough not to feel let down when a feature that was such a big deal gets yanked without warning.
The multi-sell system was a long-awaited quality-of-life change that players had been hoping for since the game's release. The unexpected gap left by this change stands out, particularly since managing inventory remains a hassle for players.
For now, fans are keeping their eyes on Ubisoft's next steps. The Claws of Awaji DLC is coming soon, with more updates on the way.
Here's hoping we get the basic tools back before new missions or cosmetics drop, like the ability to clear out an overflowing inventory without turning it into a grind.
