Still Wakes the Deep, the atmospheric horror game from The Chinese Room and publisher Secret Mode, secured three major wins at the 2025 BAFTA Game Awards, making it one of the most awarded titles of the night.

Still Wakes the Deep was recognized in the categories of New Intellectual Property, Performer in a Leading Role for Alec Newman, and Performer in a Supporting Role for Karen Dunbar.

Newman, honored for his portrayal of protagonist Caz McLeary, praised the development team in his acceptance speech, calling their attention to detail “phenomenal.”

The Chinese Room, known for acclaimed narrative titles like Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Dear Esther, now celebrates its second multi-award BAFTA win, further cementing its legacy in story-driven gaming. Still Wakes the Deep received eight nominations in total, tying for the second-highest number at this year’s ceremony.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake—a polished and well-received survival horror entry—was also nominated for Best Performer in a Leading Role for Luke Roberts’ portrayal of James Sunderland but ultimately did not take home the award.

Set on a North Sea oil rig during a violent storm, Still Wakes the Deep offers a harrowing first-person horror experience. In a narrative reminiscent of Layers of Fear and the iconic P.T. demo, the game distinguishes itself by stripping players of any means of escape or communication. As a stranded rig worker, players must navigate collapsing structures and face an unspeakable, Lovecraftian horror from the depths.

The game received solid reviews from major gaming outlets, with praise directed at its haunting atmosphere while others criticized its linear structure.
