When reports of Oblivion Remastered started making the rounds, fans were worried about the fate of Skyblivion. Although Bethesda has always been supportive of mods, many feared they would act like Nintendo and shut down this fan-made game because it coincides with their re-release. Luckily, this isn’t the case at all.
Not only will Skyblivion continue to see development, but Bethesda has also given the developers game codes for their remastered release. It’s a good gesture, and one that more AAA companies should show for these fan projects.
The devs of this fan project thanked Bethesda for sending them codes for Oblivion Remastered through social media. Each member of the team received a code, and they’re thankful that the folks at Bethesda are supportive of their endeavors. Considering how Nintendo and Capcom have reacted to fan projects in the past, this is a pretty unexpected outcome.
For those not aware, Skyblivion is a full-blown remake of Oblivion made by fans using the Skyrim engine. This mod has been in development for a while and will be playable in the current Skyrim: Special Edition. While it doesn’t look as lovely as the AAA remaster, there’s still a ton of effort here, and the game looks great using Skyrim’s engine.
Projects like this are always good to see, as they show how much these games have influenced fans. That’s why it was always disappointing to see Nintendo take down similar projects like AM2R, just because Metroid: Samus Returns was coming to 3DS. It’s good to know that Bethesda has stayed consistent with supporting mods for their games, and this is proof.
Skyblivion has been in development for many years now, and the devs have said it’s currently planned for a 2025 release. If they make it this year, 2025 is going to be great for Elder Scrolls fans.
Now, if only Elder Scrolls 6 would get a release date.
