Keiichiro Toyama is best known for Silent Hill, SIREN, and Gravity Rush.
He released Slitterhead in late 2024 and is now working on a new game. Bokeh Game Studio is starting a project to push the team’s boundaries.
The game didn’t break out as hoped, but it built a loyal audience drawn to its odd world and combination of action and horror. For Toyama, that reception was more meaningful than raw numbers.
He said that while commercial success is important, Slitterhead was always meant to be a canvas for creative freedom, and that would not have been possible inside the walls of a traditional AAA studio.
What Is Toyama’s Team Making Next?
Bokeh Game Studio is now working on a new game that Toyama told Famitsu is already in the works.
He hasn’t given specific details, but it’s obvious the project fits into a bigger plan. Bokeh was established to be a flexible, creator-focused space that welcomes fresh ideas from all team members, especially younger ones.
Toyama has openly talked about wanting to pass on the torch as he gets older. The next game appears to build on Bokeh’s foundation while aiming for broader creative expression.
Toyama mentioned they might explore other genres, possibly lighter or different ones, but didn’t say if that’s for the new game.
What Did the Slitterhead Exhibition Reveal?
Even with low sales, Slitterhead’s creativity stood out in the 2025 concept art exhibition at Tokyo’s Vanilla Gallery.
Behind-the-scenes artwork, unused boss designs, and removed characters were part of the event. One example was “Harley,” a character originally planned as a fourth boss who was scrapped during development.
The exhibition presented both the team’s art direction and the freedom and experimentation that Bokeh is leaning into for its next titles. The studio doesn’t want to be boxed into one genre or formula.
Instead, it wants to evolve, with each game acting as a creative stepping stone. Still, Toyama is aware that building a studio like Bokeh comes with long-term challenges.
He’s acknowledged that the team is only “midway” to where they hope to be, and this next title will be critical in proving that Bokeh has the versatility and strength to stand among today’s most respected independent developers.
While no release window has been announced yet, Toyama has promised that more details will come in due time.
