Bloober Team and Konami have suddenly announced via their social media accounts that they’re working on the next Silent Hill remake, and judging by the use of Silent Hill 1’s music in the reveal video, it looks like they’re revisiting the very first game in the series.

Rumors of a Silent Hill 1 remake have been circulating for quite some time. Following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, Bloober Team seems to be going full steam ahead with remaking the older entries in the franchise, starting with the game that first opened the door to a new era of survival horror through its blend of psychological terror.

Originally released on the first PlayStation console in 1999, Silent Hill 1 shook the gaming industry with its haunting art direction and deeply unsettling atmosphere. The game follows Harry Mason as he searches for his missing daughter in the fog-drenched town of Silent Hill, a journey that still lingers in the minds of many fans today.

As of now, there’s not much to glean beyond the announcement itself. Konami and Bloober Team have confirmed they’re hard at work on the project, and while details are scarce, the confirmation alone is big news. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a full Silent Hill resurgence following Silent Hill 2 Remake’s strong reception, and a remake of the original game is a promising sign of what’s to come, perhaps even a return to Heather’s story in Silent Hill 3 or the eerie oddity that is Silent Hill 4: The Room.
