Just when we thought Resident Evil 9 couldn’t get any scarier, Capcom has raised the stakes once again with its latest survival horror entry by introducing a brand-new Stalker-type monster reminiscent of Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, but even more terrifying.

At a recent preview event hosted by Capcom for select game journalists and influencers, it became clear that this will become a game-changing Resident Evil title. Notably, the game seems to have finally resolved its identity crisis by offering both third-person and first-person modes right from the start.

One standout detail from the previews is the presence of a new Stalker-type enemy encountered during the demo, which reportedly lasts between 30 minutes to an hour. This relentless figure haunts Resident Evil 9: Requiem’s protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, with the same merciless intensity as Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 or Lady Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village. It doesn’t stop until you’re gasping for your last breath.

Players who got hands-on with the demo described themselves screaming as they fled from this unnameable horror. Those who managed to get a glimpse of the creature could only describe it as a towering, 10-to-20-foot-tall being resembling a mutated woman. Fans will recognize it as the chained monster teased in the game’s first reveal trailer.

Some players spent their time in the demo searching for a missing fuse box, all while being stalked in tight, tense corners, evoking memories of Jack Baker in Resident Evil 7. Others compared the experience to Alien: Isolation, noting that the AI is eerily intelligent and nearly impossible to outsmart or shake off. A few even likened the encounter with this so-called “Giant Grandma” to their first harrowing moments with "The Beast", Amnesia: The Bunker by Frictional Games.

Unfortunately, the demo remains under wraps, and no gameplay footage has surfaced online. However, screenshots have emerged, showcasing the updated graphics powered by the RE Engine. Observant fans noticed that the demo appears to be set in the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center, a location previously referenced in Resident Evil: Outbreak 2’s subway segment. Sharp-eyed players also pointed out that Rhodes Hill is near the Arklay region, confirming that this demo likely takes place in the iconic Raccoon City.
