And just like that, one rumor sparked another. After yesterday’s surprise shadow drop of Oblivion Remastered, players are already diving back into the lands of Tamriel, soaking in the updated visuals and gameplay tweaks that breathe new life into this modern reimagining of the 2006 classic.

Now, rumors are swirling about a Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, according to user u/eXtas1stv. He claimed that Bethesda and Virtuos Studios are currently developing the game for the platform. They might possibly target a launch window around the Switch 2’s release or a few months afterward.

The absence of a Switch 2 version is the only missing piece from the game’s big launch yesterday. Even the PlayStation 5—Microsoft’s direct competitor—received the remaster, priced at $50. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can access the game for free, while PC players without a subscription can purchase it for the same $50 on Steam.

Skipping the original Switch makes sense, given its hardware limitations. But with the Switch 2 on the horizon, Oblivion Remastered could become a viable addition. The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, and other titles built on the same engine—such as Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction, a top contender for Game of the Year—are already confirmed for Switch 2.

Bethesda isn’t new to the Switch ecosystem, either. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was ported to the original Switch with enhanced visuals, quality-of-life updates, and even some Legend of Zelda crossover content.

Bringing Oblivion Remastered to the Switch 2 feels like a natural step for Bethesda, especially as developers prepare to tap into the console’s improved hardware and hybrid versatility.

Whether this rumor pans out or not, it suggests Microsoft and Xbox may be preparing to support the Switch 2 more directly by bringing over major titles. Games like Hi-Fi Rush from Tango Gameworks, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and maybe even Starfield could find new life on Nintendo’s upgraded console.

There’s no official word on pricing for the Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered, but it will likely fall in line with current industry trends—expect a price tag between $60 and $70.
