The mysterious Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Program is returning soon, which means fans will be able to test something that they have sworn secrecy to. Naturally, that won’t mean much, as these get leaked more than a dripping faucet at 6 AM. It will be interesting to see what kind of information gets revealed this time, assuming the info gets leaked.

An FAQ from Nintendo revealed the necessary details needed so players can take part in this playtest. Interested users will need an NSO Online + Expansion Pack membership in order to apply. Fans who have been accepted will need either the base NSO Online membership or the version with an Expansion Pack, if they don’t have one.

Interestingly, the company confirmed that this Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Program will be “a test of the same service” as the one from October 2024. Fans on forums like Reddit said this was some sort of block-building MMO where players need to build towers with other players in order to illuminate the area. There’s still no official name for this “game,” but Nintendo seems to have confidence in it.

Curious players who get chosen will be able to try this feature out from July 28 to August 10, which is a decent amount of time. This will be an interesting experience for players who were able to playtest this before and newbies who didn’t have a chance. Hopefully, more details on this game will be revealed in the future.

Despite the lack of any official information, there's plenty of leaks that can be found on websites like Reddit. Fans who broke the NDA showed that this new MMO uses a voxel graphics-style, similar to Minecraft. There are some fun swinging mechanics, ala Spider-Man, and fans can also connect with each other via their...chords?

The focus on teamwork is nice, and there's something satisfying about seeing the light shine after successfully building a tower. With Splatoon more focused on team-based competition, this new title could win people over by being more of a general team-building title.

Nintendo Switch Online has been one of the better gaming-related online services, giving players access to a ton of classic games. Upgrading to the Expansion Pack will give players access to Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and SEGA Genesis titles. Switch 2 players are also blessed, as they also have GameCube games, considered by many to be the holy grail of Nintendo systems.
