Good news for those who missed the classic PlayStation 5 UI — it’s finally back, and this time, it looks like it’s here to stay.
Integrated as part of PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary Event, this update is Sony’s tribute to three decades of gaming history. Players can now choose from four different UI themes, each inspired by an iconic PlayStation era — from the original PlayStation One to the PlayStation 4.
Following overwhelming support from the PS5 community, Sony recognized just how much players appreciated this nostalgic callback. Customizing your PlayStation 5’s interface is simple: just head to ‘Appearance’ under the Settings menu.
But the classic UIs aren’t the only addition in this update. Sony also introduced a slew of new features, including a game-changing audio setting.
The new Audio Focus feature enhances immersion by amplifying sound based on individual hearing preferences. It’s especially effective when using headphones or headsets, giving players more control over their audio experience.
This is particularly useful in games where the sound mixing isn’t quite right — for example, when dialogue competes with background noise or environmental effects. With Audio Focus, players can more clearly distinguish between different sound layers. It also works in Party Chat, making conversations with friends easier to follow. The update begins rolling out on April 24 across all regions. However, Sony hasn’t specified exact times per time zone, so players will need to wait for their consoles to automatically update in the coming days.
With news of Ghost of Yotei’s release date finally unveiled, and the launch of Microsoft’s worst-kept secret, Oblivion Remastered, today seems like a big day for gaming.
