Monster Hunter Wilds’ first free Title Update has taken over everyone’s weekends unless they’re too busy with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows or South of Midnight.
With Title Update 1 going full force since Friday, more and more players are jumping back into their Wilds adventure to hunt new, powerful monsters like the high-rank version of Zoh Shia and the graceful bubble leviathan, Mizutsune.
Little did they know the Leviathan would end up being a far more challenging fight than a constructed version of an Elder Dragon.
The Mizutsune we see in Wilds is a far cry from the one we first met in Monster Hunter Generations and Monster Hunter Rise. This new version takes the threat level up a notch, blending elements from its Deviant forms, especially Soulseer Mizutsune, into one seriously dangerous package.
Once Mizutsune enters its second phase and begins using Soulseer’s moveset, everything changes. It hits harder, spams more exploding bubbles, and has a devastating one-hit tail attack that can cart even maxed-out hunters. Even with a Defense Value of 350–400 (which are basically endgame levels), the pink-colored Leviathan can still wipe you out in a single strike. Fatalis, much?
The regular Mizutsune is already a tough fight. So just imagine what the Tempered version is like, with increased health and damage. That’s why most Monster Hunter Wilds players are sticking to the regular version and steering clear of the Tempered one—unless they’re ready for the fastest “Quest Failed” screen of their lives.
It doesn’t help that Zoh Shia, tough as it is, doesn’t have a Tempered version; it’s just the standard one. Meanwhile, Mizutsune hits harder and takes longer to take down, making it one of the most punishing encounters in the update.
I mean, people did say Monster Hunter Wilds was too easy, right? Looks like this was Capcom’s way of correcting the record.
Title Update 1 is just the start of Capcom’s live-service plan for Monster Hunter Wilds. More updates are on the way, including the return of fan-favorite Lagiacrus this summer, and even tougher monsters coming in next month’s Title Update 1.5.
