Almost six months after its release, Monster Hunter Wilds found a renewed sense of life thanks to Title Update 2, which introduced the iconic Lagiacrus and Seregios. Both monsters proved to be incredibly difficult to fight, with some players even calling it the hardest content Wilds has seen so far.
Now that the honeymoon phase of Title Update 2 has passed, fans are already wondering what’s next for Monster Hunter Wilds’ content pipeline. Fortunately, a few keen-eyed dataminers may have uncovered the answer, pointing to the return of a familiar face in the franchise.
According to the subreddit r/MonsterHunterLeaks, prominent leaker u/RoseKaedae (who previously confirmed Lagiacrus’ return) discovered what appears to be Gogmazios code scattered throughout the game’s files.
The leaker believes Gogmazios was planned from the very beginning. While there isn’t a lot of data currently associated with it, its presence was first hinted at during the Open Beta Test when dataminers found status effects labeled “HEAVY_OIL” and “Tarred” tied to the game’s systems.
For a quick refresher, Gogmazios is one of the most iconic monsters in the Monster Hunter series. This enormous, tar-covered Elder Dragon debuted in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. It’s a six-limbed siege monster (similar in scale and design to Shen Gaoren and Safi’Jiva) that requires a full team of four hunters to defeat in a race against time.
In Wilds’ case, Gogmazios appears to be the next major monster arriving in Title Update 3 or 4.
This could also align with Capcom’s plans for the game’s future, as they have mentioned that they are teasing a new weapon crafting system that could surpass the barebones Artian Weapons. Title Update 3 (or 4) could be the moment Capcom introduces this new mechanic, especially if it’s tied to farming Gogmazios for rare materials and exclusive drops.
This could work similarly to the Siege monsters in Monster Hunter World, where players awakened weapons with random rolls from Kulve Taroth and Safi’Jiva. Here, hunters may need to slay Gogmazios to extract ancient weapons lodged in its body and purify them from oil-based corruption. It’s a diegetic approach that feels grounded in the world, and it might just be the direction Capcom is heading.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the leak, but given the track record of these dataminers, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this massive Elder Dragon crash into Monster Hunter Wilds in Title Update 3, charging up its laser beam and ready for battle.
