Tired of carrying the team as another solo tank MVP most of the time? Good news: Marvel Rivals and NetEase have finally addressed the need for individuality in a competitive team setup.
In a recent patch, NetEase announced that Marvel Rivals Season 2 will kick off with the addition of Emma Frost—a new Vanguard who’s as deadly as she is stunning. She’s already generating buzz within the community and is expected to shake up the current meta. Alongside her debut, a new Domination map set on the mutant island of Krakoa will be available for both casual and competitive play.
But the biggest change in Patch 20250411 is how individual performance will now affect your Competitive score, even during a losing streak. According to NetEase, players can finally breathe easier if they’re doing their part in the lobby—win or lose.
From the official patch notes: “The score you earn per Competitive match is determined by both the outcome and your individual performance. After Season 2.0 launches, we will be increasing the weight of individual performances. The better you perform, the more points you will earn in victory, and the fewer points you will lose in defeat.”
This means a new algorithm will be introduced to calculate Competitive Points based on more than just the team result. Winning or losing still matters, but if you're a Magneto solo tank racking up medals for blocked damage and clutch saves, expect a better score than a Spidey one-trick with zero impact.
It’s a refreshing change for Marvel Rivals. Despite being a team-based hero shooter, individual impact often varies—especially during chaotic team fights. Some days you carry, and some days you're background noise.
While this approach isn’t entirely new in competitive games, it’s interesting to see it implemented in a team-based setting. Hopefully, NetEase will continue refining the system, rewarding strong performances and discouraging toxic play.
Marvel Rivals Season 2 launches April 11, bringing balance changes and major nerfs to Vanguards like Doctor Strange.
