Marvel Rivals players are already airing their concerns about the new Event Pass bundle in Marvel Rivals’ Summer Event. Featuring the sizzling new Luna Snow skin, players are baffled that this Event Pass costs just as much as the regular Season Battle Pass.

Priced at 990 Lattice, or roughly $10, the Summer Event Pass includes two premium Summer skins for The Thing and Luna Snow. There’s also a free Thor skin available for non-premium players.

The Summer Event Pass contains three skins.

Players aren’t happy with the pricing model, as seen on the game’s official subreddit. Some are calling this Marvel Rivals’ “new low,” pointing out that the Event Pass costs the same as the main seasonal Battle Pass, which is also priced at 990 Lattice or $10.

So what happened here? It looks like NetEase is fully aware of the pricing, and they likely know that the Luna Snow and The Thing skins will sell regardless.

In Marvel Rivals’ defense, most of Marvel Rivals’ skins are expensive, with some Legendary ones reaching up to $20 or 2300 Lattices. In the case of the Summer Event Pass, only Luna Snow’s skin seems worth the price, and even then, it costs $10 less than a typical Legendary skin. Players also get the new The Thing “Thong” skin alongside it.

New Ultimate VFX are also around for the new Luna Snow skin.

If we break it down further, the Summer Event Pass offers 21 items, including three major skins. There are 3 sprays, 4 emoticon bundles, 2 x200 Unstable Molecules, 2 emotes, and 2 MVP animations. Technically, it could be considered a good deal. But let’s be honest, most players are only after the Luna Snow skin, not the rest of the cosmetics.

While it might seem like a solid value on paper, this might be exactly what NetEase intended. It could be a signal that they plan to raise prices for future event passes, possibly making 990 Lattice the new standard. Who knows? We might even see more expensive versions of the Battle Pass down the line. Instead of the usual $10, we could be looking at $20 or worse, $30.

Uh oh.

Of course, this might not be a big deal for players who can afford it. But plenty of players don’t have the luxury to keep up with these shiny new skins. And that’s the real issue with live-service games and their pricing strategies.

If there’s one takeaway from all this, it’s that NetEase appears to be raising prices moving forward, and it could only get worse from here. Unless fan feedback becomes loud enough, we might not see a change anytime soon.
