In a shocking turn of events, Nintendo has announced that Mario Kart Tour will be getting a new season after not getting content for two years. Nintendo previously said that Tour would stop getting updates, but would still have support for online play and reward rotations. That’s all changed now that Mario Kart World on Switch 2 is a huge success.
Nintendo has confirmed that this new season’s special campaign will be coming out next week on July 22. As expected, there will be content here that ties into MKW, including new looks for Mario and Luigi. The iconic plumber brothers will be getting mechanic outfits that look similar to the FAMICOM.
Four colorful new karts will also be added to Mario Kart Tour, adding some more variety to the game. These will presumably be available for most, if not all, of the characters, so fans who don’t care for Mario and Luigi will be happy. Of course, most fans will be shocked to see Tour getting new updates at all, especially after World’s success.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has decided to update it's mobile games out of nowhere. Super Mario Run also received new content when Super Mario Bros. Wonder was released on Nintendo Switch. It was amusing to many, as Run is based on New Super Mario Bros., but was now getting content from its superior successor.
We also presume that fans have been playing Mario Kart Tour consistently, hence this major update. It would have been easy to just let this mobile racer die, but Nintendo decided to give mobile players more content to play through. Obviously, World is still the better game, but it’s good to see mobile owners get something from the company.
