Unlike most recent releases that hog tons of space, Elden Ring: Nightreign is mindful of its install size.
The game is a full standalone title and not just an add-on or side mode, yet it only needs around 21.15 GB of storage on PS5 and a little more storage on PS4 at 21.176 GB.
To frame it better, Elden Ring originally launched at nearly twice that size, and now, with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it’s roughly 61 GB in total. Nightreign trims down the bulk but keeps the core depth.
What’s surprising is that Nightreign isn’t a lightweight in scope. It moves away from the solo open-world style of the previous game to a compact, co-op-centered roguelite format.
You and up to two teammates enter changing worlds and aim to last three in-game days. The difficulty increases over time as the map gets smaller and enemies appear in greater numbers.
The game is smaller but still includes FromSoftware’s signature features like lore told through “Remembrances,” class-based progression, and a hub called the Roundtable Hold, where players use Murk to buy cosmetics.
Players eager to jump in early can begin pre-loading Nightreign on May 28, two days before it launches on May 30. Pre-loading means you can jump in right away without long installs on launch day.
If you choose the Deluxe Edition, which includes an upcoming DLC, the official soundtrack, and a digital art book, you will also download an extra 738 MB for those additional items. That said, the base game’s impressively low storage footprint remains one of its standout traits.
Most of the file size details so far are from PlayStation, but Nightreign should have a similarly small footprint on PC and Xbox as well. The fact that FromSoftware usually delivers well-optimized games combined with roguelites’ simple design likely explains it.
But don’t mistake its small size for a small experience. Nightreign keeps things tight but still packs intense boss battles, a fresh multiplayer spin, and survival gameplay that matches the studio’s standards. In short, Elden Ring Nightreign is proof that games don’t need to eat up 100 GB to be ambitious.
It’s sleek, carefully optimized, and values your storage as much as your gameplay. No matter if it’s your first trip into FromSoft’s world or a return to the Lands Between, this one’s set to install without making you worry about storage space.
