For the past few months, many indie games including R.E.P.O. and Schedule I have been making a name for themselves. The latter is especially impressive as only one developer is behind the phenomenal game.
Schedule I is a simulation game in which players create and sell illegal products. The concept is simple, and the process of creation until distribution and the wacky effects the substances have may be the reason why it's so huge on social media.
However, the creators of Drug Dealer Simulators 1 and 2 are currently investigating the game for possible infringement, which has affected their game reviews.
Drug Dealer Simulator and Drug Dealer Simulator 2's Steam reviews have been bombed by players after hearing about the possible lawsuit against Schedule I. Both games have been marked as "Overwhelmingly Negative" for their recent reviews.
Many players expressed their disbelief at the team behind Drug Dealer Simulator, mentioning that the developers got greedy and took legal action because both games featured illegal substances and dealing. The majority of the reviews contain comments advocating for Schedule I.
The publisher behind Drug Dealer Simulator published a statement on April 8 regarding the situation. They stated that there is no lawsuit against Schedule I or TVGS. However, due to the similarities between the games, an investigation is underway, as the preliminary legal analysis indicated that there might be infringement. They stated that they don't intend to prevent TVGS from selling or developing the game.
The company deemed it necessary to investigate, as it could face severe consequences for negligence. They said that they sent their best wishes to TVGS before the release of Schedule I and before deeming the investigation necessary. They also clarified that the development team behind the games, Byterunners, is not involved in this.
There isn't any information yet on the status of the investigation, but the publisher's reputation definitely took a hit after this move.
