Donkey Kong Bananza will be the biggest Switch 2 release after Mario Kart World, looking like a stellar 3D platformer in the same vein as Super Mario Odyssey. Based on the destruction we’ve seen from the trailers, it seems like this game was made with Switch 2 in mind. However, that wasn’t the case, as Bananza was originally planned for Switch 1.
Speaking with IGN (via NintendoLife), producer Kenta Motokura and director Kazuya Takahashi revealed that this game was planned for the original Switch before they found out about the Switch 2. Motokura said that there were plans to include voxel technology, making us think of Minecraft, before production was moved over to the new console.
Here’s what Motokura had to say about Donkey Kong Bananza being on Switch 1:
“So this game originally began its development cycle on Nintendo Switch 1 and at the time, we were still using voxel technology and thinking of lots of different ideas for applications. But when we learned about the Switch 2 development, we realized that the best implementation of these ideas and technology would be on Nintendo Switch 2.”
Bananza looks primed to be a powerhouse showcase for Nintendo’s new console, as the amount of environmental interactivity shows. Those signature colorful visuals are still there, but seeing DK smash through the environment or punch out walls is something special. You didn’t see a lot of that technology for the original Switch.
While Donkey Kong Bananza won’t be coming out on the first Switch, Switch 2 owners will be able to share the title with last-gen owners through GameShare. It’s a decent way to get OG Switch owners to try the game out, and maybe even get them to buy that new hybrid system.
Switch 2 owners will soon be able to try out Bananza, as the massive 3D platformer comes out on July 17. For more Switch 2 news, stick with us here at Gfinityesports.com, the best website for gamers.
