It turns out that some fans won’t have to wait too long for Donkey Kong Bananza, as some copies have leaked and made their way to the wild. This means that spoilers for the game should be making their way online, so fans need to be careful. While this isn’t a huge story-based game, some players will still want to go in blind and be surprised, so this is concerning.
Fans on the Switch 2 subreddit have confirmed that some copies of Bananza are making their way to the hands of sketchy gamers. Curious players should be able to see some spoilers on Reddit, YouTube, and social media in general, but only if they actively seek them. Those who want to remain spoiler-free should avoid these online spaces, or at the very least, not actively look for Nintendo content.
Nintendo has actually revealed some surprises for Donkey Kong Bananza already, revealing that the stone creature from earlier press material was actually a younger Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey. This is huge confirmation that Bananza is set before Odyssey, though most fans won’t be bothered by that. After all, the Super Mario Bros. lore isn’t beloved as something like Persona or Final Fantasy.
Of course, that doesn't mean everything should be spoiled. Surprises are still good.
The leaks are mildly upsetting, but not exactly news for Nintendo fans. Any chronically online Switch user will tell you about all of the games that were leaked early, like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. While a fairly common occurrence, this can be bothersome for fans who just want to wait patiently for their physical orders.
Fans were hoping that this kind of leak wouldn’t happen with Switch 2 titles, given how much stricter Nintendo has been, but that’s obviously not the case.
Regardless of how these leaks happened, Donkey Kong Bananza will come out soon enough, and Switch 2 owners won’t have to worry about a thing. Once again, this 3D platformer is more about gameplay and exploration, so story spoilers won’t be a huge deal. Then again, it would be disappointing if certain cameos are spoiled in advance, especially if they’re Diddy Kong or King K. Rool.
