Four years after its timed exclusive release on the Nintendo Switch, Monster Hunter Rise players are demanding that Capcom release a 60fps patch.

Posted on the Monster Hunter subreddit, fans are asking for a next-gen upgrade for their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Some even say it doesn’t need to be a full upgrade with enhanced textures. What they want most is an unlocked framerate, targeting 60 frames per second.

To this day, Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion Sunbreak are still capped at 30fps on the Switch, even on Nintendo’s latest hybrid console, which has double the power. On the original model, the game often struggles during intense encounters, particularly with final bosses such as Narwa and Gaismagorm. Worse, loading times can stretch close to a full minute, undermining the game’s quick-hunt design.

For a game built around fast-paced combat, the current Switch 2 experience is essentially the same as the original version, save for improved loading times that shave off crucial seconds of staring at a black screen. The game now loads approximately a minute faster, making it feel smoother and more enjoyable; however, it still experiences performance issues due to its locked frame rate.

Framerate concerns continue to grow. With the Switch 2’s improved specs, players believe a 60fps patch should be well within Capcom’s reach, especially since the game runs on their proprietary RE Engine. The absence of even a basic performance patch has left many fans confused and disappointed.

One possible reason for this silence is that Capcom may have moved on from Monster Hunter Rise entirely. The portable team could be focusing on new projects instead of revisiting older titles. Besides, Monster Hunter Wilds, their premier Monster Hunter title, is being prioritized with more content and a fix to its abysmal performance on PCs. It’s a tough pill to swallow, but it’s also realistic that this could be the case. Still, players believe that if enough voices speak up, change could happen.

Some fans have already given up hope for a next-gen patch. Many suggest picking up the game on PC or other consoles instead, where performance and visuals are far superior.

But here’s the thing: Monster Hunter Rise launched first on Nintendo Switch through a timed exclusivity deal with Nintendo. Watching it remain stuck with base-level performance, while newer hardware sits capable, feels unfair. If CD Projekt Red could update Cyberpunk 2077 and Hello Games could overhaul No Man’s Sky, surely Capcom can do the same.

The question is, will they?
