Good news, Vault Hunters! Borderlands 4 is moving up its release date to September 12—that’s two weeks earlier than originally planned.
The change was announced by Game Director Randy Pitchford in a social media post. Since then, the Borderlands 4 social channels have echoed the news, noting that it took a lot of work to make the earlier launch possible.
There's even more good news for fans: a new State of Play focused entirely on Borderlands 4 is coming this April 30 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 11pm CEST. The broadcast will feature 20 minutes of new weapons, abilities, missions, and plenty more as players prepare to dive into the world of Kairos.

Borderlands 4 is the sequel to Borderlands 3 and the fifth major entry in the franchise (excluding the live-action adaptation). Once again, players will take on the role of a Vault Hunter leading a resistance against a tyrannical ruler known as the Timekeeper. One of the game's biggest selling points—beyond the arsenal of wild weapons—is its new "seamless" world, which could hint at a shift toward an open-world experience with no loading screens between areas.
The shift in Borderlands 4’s release date has stirred speculation among fans. Some believe Gearbox Software is trying to avoid competing with Marathon, while others suspect the studio may be positioning itself ahead of a potential Grand Theft Auto VI launch window.
