Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is one of the best kart racers available on the market, so why isn’t it on Steam yet? This is a game that sold millions of copies across PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, so its lack of a port on PC is just odd.
With Mario Kart World coming out on the same day as Nintendo’s Switch 2, the PC and Steam Deck could use some kart racers. So why isn’t Crash’s acclaimed kart racer there at all? It genuinely doesn’t make any sense.
After the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy did so well, fans immediately wanted a CTR remake to keep this momentum going. It didn’t take long to get that remake, and it turned out to be better than expected. Not only did this game look and run well, but it’s also filled with new characters to unlock and tracks from other games like Crash Nitro Kart.
The problem is that Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was only announced for consoles, and it’s still not on PC.
Even though this writer isn’t obsessed with frame rate or 4K visuals, the PC version could have easily added these to the racer. Online play is also usually better on PC, and we think that the game could have benefited from having servers on Steam or Epic. The fact that this port doesn’t exist when several Crash ports are already on PC is mind-boggling.
Mods also would have been fun to see in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, as that would have given some of these characters fun outfits or unique vehicles. There might also be some creepy stuff in there, but mods are optional, and fans can choose good things that benefit their gameplay.
It’s a shame that the CTR remake didn’t come to PC. Crash has also been through the ringer recently, as the platform mascot has had several games canceled because Activision Blizzard just wants to make more Call of Duty games. The last game we saw this platforming mascot in was Crash Team Rumble, which was a unique multiplayer title, but not much else.
Late PC ports have happened before, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if we eventually see a Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled PC port. Fans who desperately want to play the game can try emulating the Switch version, assuming they have the cartridge. Then again, if they already have it on Switch, they might as well play it on that system.
While the lack of a PC port is disappointing, it’s good to know that Crash Time Racing Nitro-Fueled is on platforms that have backward compatibility. A PC port would be great one day, but that isn’t today.
