Cyberpunk 2077’s mysterious Patch 2.3 is about to get more details in just a few hours, and I’m already excited to see what CD Projekt Red is cooking up to make me want to start a new playthrough. After being hit by an unfortunate delay, the release date feels so close, yet still out of reach.

Ever since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has been teasing the upcoming 2.3 update, calling it a beefy patch that adds new content to the game. But what could it be? Let’s speculate.

A New Game Plus Mode?

Since the game’s disastrous launch back in December 2020, fans have been hoping for a New Game Plus mode that would let them carry over upgrades, perks, and cyberware into a fresh playthrough. Despite CD Projekt Red previously saying they couldn’t implement it, maybe circumstances have changed and we’ll finally see the mode added in Patch 2.3.

If we look back at CDPR’s previous work, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt didn’t get its New Game Plus until a few months after release.

A Third-Person Mode?

This might sound like a stretch, but maybe Patch 2.3 will include a switchable third-person camera mode. Sure, it seems like a nearly impossible task, but maybe CD Projekt Red has found a way to make it work more smoothly and let players experience Cyberpunk 2077 from a new perspective.

Capcom’s modern Resident Evil titles, which focused on a first-person view, eventually got a third-person camera option. So maybe CD Projekt Red is heading in that direction too, but who knows?

New Quests

The most realistic thing we can expect from Patch 2.3 is a handful of new quests and side gigs to add more hours to the game’s already lengthy story. If it follows the same approach as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, where CD Projekt Red added new quests to coincide with their Netflix adaptation, we could be looking at two or three new quests to explore.

And with new quests usually come new rewards. Here’s hoping we get some new weapons and maybe a few stylish Night City outfits.

Something Else?

Something more realistic than new quests, New Game Plus, or a third-person mode? Maybe Patch 2.3 is a smaller update focused on quality-of-life improvements. We could see new items, minor updates to vehicle customization, and not much more. Nothing huge, but possibly a teaser for the next Cyberpunk entry.

We're also seeing a new Edgerunners coming soon!

As for me, it would take something truly fresh to get me to start a whole new playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. But then again, maybe a small patch is just the push I need to dive back into Night City.
