Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest collaboration with Street Fighter 6 is live, and players are already diving in as Akuma, Street Fighter’s resident Shura.
But beyond the fun of uppercutting monsters, Akuma’s presence has sparked a burning question among fans: Is this Capcom’s way of teasing the long-rumored 15th weapon?
Is there a 15th Weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Nope, at least not officially.
The base game still includes the 14 classic weapons we’ve had for over a decade. The idea of a 15th weapon is mostly fan speculation, fueled by a growing desire for something new.
The last time we got brand-new weapons was in Monster Hunter 4 (2013), when the Insect Glaive and Charge Blade were introduced. Both became staples in the series.
Long-time veterans might also remember the Tonfas, a 15th weapon exclusive to Monster Hunter Frontier G.
These impact-based weapons were essentially two lightweight poles powered by a futuristic rocket system. They were fast, flashy, and packed a punch.
Unfortunately, the Tonfas never made it out of Frontier, and Capcom has since buried them for reasons still unknown.
Now, players are hoping that Capcom will finally bring something new, a whole new weapon type that opens up fresh possibilities for skills, armor, and strategies on the hunting grounds.

How does Akuma fit into the 15th Weapon theory?
Akuma fits the theory largely because of how he fights: no weapons, just fists and kicks.
His moveset hints at the possibility of a new weapon class, something like Fists or Bare Knuckles. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a game go down this path; Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree recently introduced melee gauntlets that let players brawl up close and personal.
Could Akuma be a stealth playtest for a similar weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds? It’s not impossible.
Will Monster Hunter Wilds’ Next Expansion Add a New Weapon?
There’s a chance, but it’s a long shot. Capcom would need to ensure that any new weapon feels truly distinct from the existing 14.
A 15th weapon can’t just be different; it has to be iconic. It has to bring something fresh to the table, like the Tonfas once did in Frontier G.
There’s still a long way to go before Capcom releases the anticipated Master Rank update, which could potentially arrive in the first half of 2026. Until then, all we can do is speculate about the 15th weapon that could have been, and whether Akuma’s martial arts are a sign of what’s to come.
