For those who have played Hollow Knight, it should be easy to understand why it's touted as one of the best indie games of all time. Its developer, Team Cherry, went above and beyond by crafting a 2D Metroidvania platformer that is fondly remembered and still enjoyed even now.

That being the case, it should come as no surprise that there are high expectations for its sequel, Silksong. With the amount of praise and achievements earned by its predecessor, fans hope that the next game can match its legendary status or even surpass it. With everything there is to know about Silksong and its development, there is a good chance that it may just do so.

While not every release should be game-changing to the video game industry, it is at least expected that they're of good quality to the point that players can enjoy everything they offer. Considering that people have been patient with Silksong's release, waiting for over seven years, they'll likely have high expectations for what it will eventually bring.

Although Team Cherry hasn't provided consistent updates, what the developer did share should be enough to encourage people that Silksong will surpass Hollow Knight in nearly every way. As for how it will do so, it'll be through a few ways.

For one, it's set to have more major battles and enemies. Hollow Knight had some of the hardest video game boss fights and a huge roster of enemies to take on, which Team Cherry has made sure to improve upon in the sequel in terms of quality and quantity. Given that the developer has promised that Silksong will have at least over a hundred more things to take on and has had more than enough time to work on them, this aspect of the game is definitely something to look forward to.

Another sign that shows why Silksong has a good chance of surpassing its predecessor is its main protagonist. In the previous game, players were left with their interpretation of how The Knight feels about the state of his world and its inhabitants. Although it can be seen as a good way to immerse players, the decision to make the character mute closed doors on emotional dialogue that could have enhanced the plot.

With Silksong, that won't be the case. Hornet's ability to speak could help take the game's narrative in directions that weren't possible in the Hollow Knight. This can result in better character and world-building, as interactions between two parties are better at conveying information and emotions to the player as opposed to relying on a single source.

Lastly, what makes Silksong poised to surpass Hollow Knight is the number of new features and mechanics it will have. With things like quests and Hornet's more acrobatic capabilities, with some surprises that are likely to come, the game is set to provide its players what its predecessor didn't or couldn't.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the day they can play Silksong, and it's all because of the things it promises and the legend of Hollow Knight it has to live up to. While there's no guarantee that it will surpass the previous game in every possible way, it at least has a chance to do so, and hopefully, it does so convincingly.
