Team Cherry's Next Torture Chamber: Why Silksong's Path of Pain Will Be Unforgiving

Many expect Silksong to be just as or more difficult than its predecessor, and given how hard the previous game was, it's likely to be just that. Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X owners are heavily anticipating its release and should be rightfully excited about the potential challenge it's going to bring.

Given that a lot of people expect it to be a hard game, it begs the question of whether Silksong will implement its own version of the Path of Pain, a notoriously difficult optional sub-area from its predecessor. If it's added, it's likely going to surpass the original in terms of how frustratingly challenging it will be, especially when considering certain factors.

One is that Hornet, the main protagonist of Silksong, is going to be designed to have more tools at her disposal. While this may seem beneficial to the player, it's important to consider that the developer, Team Cherry, will likely take that into account when designing the potential Path of Pain sequel.

This means there will be more challenging sections, ones that will require players to use everything at their disposal to get through. And given that the new protagonist will have much more than that of the previous game, expect that every part of the next Path of Pain will test nearly every one to see if you have mastered them.

The next reason why the sub-area is expected to be brutal is because of Silksong's focus on movement. This all comes back to Hornet being the main protagonist of the sequel, as she's expected to be extremely acrobatic, much like how she was in Hollow Knight.

And since Silksong is also a platformer, there's no doubt that the level designs will be centered around that aspect of the character. This means you should expect a new Path of Pain to have tighter jumps and landings, more crucial timings, and stricter decision-making segments that need to be overcome.

The final reason as to why people should expect Silksong's potential Path of Pain to be extremely challenging is the amount of time Team Cherry spent working on the game. Given that the developer has placed more than six years of effort into the sequel, every aspect of it is likely to be incredible.

This includes environments, boss fights, and, of course, the new Path of Pain. Given how long the game has been in development, Team Cherry will likely have done everything to ensure that the sequel's potentially notorious sub-area will be harder and more frustrating than that of the predecessor.

The Silksong Path of Pain difficulty will have to be speculated on for now, as there's no telling how hard it's going to be until the game's release. There's even a chance that it won't exist at all, which is something to consider.

Still, it would be a missed opportunity not to have something like it, given how it helped the previous game gain more popularity and how it can do the same for the sequel. So if you're looking to play Silksong, set expectations for it to have a Path of Pain or its own take on it.
